Her Work for Children
In 1986, the limited options for quality children’s magazines prompted a determined individual to take matters into her own hands. She embarked on the creation of a publication called Bal Manch, a vibrant children’s magazine printed in full color, proudly operating under the banner of “Nehru Bal Samiti.” Regrettably, after just one year, the magazine had to cease its operations due to insufficient financial support from advertisements and sponsors.
Despite its short lifespan, Bal Manch had gained considerable popularity among schoolchildren in Delhi and neighboring cities. Numerous children eagerly subscribed to the magazine on an annual basis. However, despite the overwhelming support it received, the magazine could not sustain itself solely on this foundation.

Chitra Garg, formerly known as Chitra Agrawal, was born on October 8th, 1954, in Faridpur, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. As the eldest child of Shri Jeet Prakash Agrawal and Smt. Sarojni Agrawal, Chitra’s formative years played a crucial role in shaping her love for literature and setting the foundation for her remarkable literary career.
Family Background
Her father, a wealthy businessman hailing from Faridpur, held prominent positions in the local municipal corporation and served on the governing bodies of various institutions in the area. He was known for his strong work ethic, which enabled him to accumulate substantial wealth during his lifetime. Sadly, he passed away prematurely in 1983.
Her mother, Smt. Sarojni Agrawal was an educated and scholarly woman. She was frequently invited as a guest of honor to events hosted by local institutions. In August 2014, she peacefully departed from this world.
Siblings
Rekha Agrawal, her younger sister is a journalist by profession. They have two younger brothers who have established successful businesses in Faridpur and Bareilly.

Her Stint as Documentary Maker
Following 1982, she and her children actively participated in various programs broadcasted on Doordarshan. However, it was in 1994 that she ventured into the realm of production. For two years, from 1994 to 1996, she successfully produced and directed more than 10 programs for the broadcaster. It was during this period that she also explored the art of scriptwriting.
One notable achievement was her docu-drama titled “Hamen Pyar Chahiye,” where she took on the roles of scriptwriter, director, and producer. This heartfelt short film revolved around the lives of handicapped children and received high praise when it aired on Doordarshan, the sole national channel at that time.
Simultaneously, she undertook the production of a music album, personally penning the lyrics for its songs. Additionally, she took on the role of presenter for numerous documentaries and TV programs. Her versatility and contribution to the industry were widely acknowledged during this period.

On January 25th, 1979, she tied the knot with Mr. Dinesh Garg, a well-respected advocate practicing in the Delhi High Court.

The couple is blessed with two children. Their daughter, Garima Mehta, a graduate of NIFT, Delhi, is a talented designer. She is happily married to Amit Mehta. Their son, Prakhar Garg, is an aspiring advocate and has recently tied the knot with advocate Swati. The couple has been blessed with three grandsons and one granddaughter.

Undoubtedly, writing is her true passion, but her interests expand beyond that realm. She finds joy in photography, home decoration, and engaging in sports. Furthermore, she embraces her wanderlust and thoroughly enjoys traveling to various destinations around the globe.

Her late father, Jeet Prakash Agrawal, serves as her constant source of inspiration for her work ethic.
